چکیده

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has resulted in an unprecedented shutdown social and economic activity, with the cultural sector particularly severely affected. Restrictions on musical performances have arisen from a perception that there is significantly higher risk of aerosol production singing than speaking, based upon high-profile examples clusters COVID-19 following choral rehearsals. However, comparing generation different types vocalization, including singing, across range volumes rapidly evolving area research. Here, we measured aerosols speaking breathing large cohort 25 professional singers genres zero-background environment, allowing unequivocal attribution to specific vocalizations. We do not assess relative at which people speak sing. both showed steep increases mass concentration increase loudness (spanning factor 20–30 dynamic measured, p < 0.001). At quietest volume (50 60 dBA), neither (p = 0.19) nor 0.20) were breathing. loudest (90 100 statistically significant difference 0.001) was observed between but only generating 1.5 3.4 more mass. Guidelines for should be duration number participants environment activity occurs, rather type vocalization. Mitigations such as use amplification increased attention ventilation employed where practicable.Copyright © 2021 American Association Aerosol Research

Cotton dust concentrations and particle size distributions associated with genotypes.

The problem of byssinosis has plagued cotton textile mills for hundreds of years, and it is still a problem today. With the regulations on airborne raw cotton dust set by OSHA and the ACGIH, research regarding the measurement of cotton dust in lint fiber is a necessity. A procedure known as the mass concentration particle size distribution (MCPSD) technique, developed at Texas A&M University, w...

Aerosol particle size distributions in the lower Fraser Valley: evidence for particle nucleation and growth

Particle size distributions from 9 to 640 nm diameter were measured at Eagle Ridge in the lower Fraser Valley from 13 August to 1 September 2001 as part of the Pacific 2001 Air Quality Study. The site was on top of a ridge, about 300 m above the valley floor, in a predominantly agricultural area about 70 km ESE of Vancouver. To further characterize the particles, their hygroscopic properties (a...

Biomass burning aerosol emissions from vegetation fires: particle number and mass emission factors and size distributions

Aerosol emissions from vegetation fires have a large impact on air quality and climate. In this study, we use published experimental data and different fitting procedures to derive dynamic particle number and mass emission factors (EFPN, EFPM) related to the fuel type, burning conditions and the mass of dry fuel burned, as well as characteristic CO-referenced emission ratios (PN/CO, PM/CO). Mor...
